Pain shooting down my arm at 3:15 am is not the wake-up call I ordered. It's calmed down now, but what the heck is wrong with my Hickman?!?

Central lines and infusions when it is below 50 degrees should be considered cruel and unusual punishment

So the area all around my catheter is puffy and sore today. Not cool.

So the entrance site for my Hickman has been getting more and more irritated and sore as the week has progressed. Then this morning I wake up at 6 when I roll over and PAIN shoots through my chest and down my arm. It was all I could do to not scream. Is a little better now. Just really sore. Hmmm. Things do not bode well for the coming hours. Woke-up drenched in a cold sweat, with my heart pounding at 3:30 this morning. So I got to take another 'line vacation,' as Dr. Olson calls it, this weekend. Cultures were positive, and by Friday night I was back in the hospital. Very stressed about school and tons of make-up work. Not good. My Hickman is still sore and stinging when I'm infusing. Not good. Olson is concerned there may be a clot or 'vegetation' still in the line that's holding onto the bacteria. Not good. Started meds to dissolve any possible clot today.
